About Dawn Aerospace
Last updated 18 May, 2023
Dawn Aerospace is a space transportation company. Our talented team comprises around 120 people split 50/50 between New Zealand and the Netherlands, with sales in the USA.
Our mission is to enable the next generation of space users by providing more sustainable and scalable ways to access and move around in space. We believe this access, in the form of a transportation network, will fundamentally change what’s possible from space.
To develop that network, we’re currently providing and developing several technologies – we're a leading supplier of turnkey green propulsion systems for various classes of satellites. Our system utilises safe, accessible propellants, and we have 57 of these propulsion units on 12 operational satellites already (as of 18/05/2023). A further 200 units are in production.
Beyond our propulsion systems, now an established commercial offering, we continuously work on R&D programmes. Our Mk-II Aurora spaceplane demonstrator has completed 50 successful flights, and we recently completed the first campaign utilising rocket engines (more here). Mk-II is unique in that it combines the performance of a rocket and the rapid reusability and economic model of an aircraft.
We're proud to have received numerous prestigious awards for our innovative approach, including the Start-up Company of the Year at the 2020 NZ Hi-Tech Awards, the Best Medium Business at the 2022 New Zealand International Business Awards, and the Champion Supreme Award, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise Emerging Exporter Award, and ChristchurchNZ Champion Innovation Award at the 2021 NZ Westpac Champion Business Awards.
